3D Modeling Program BlocksCAD to Launch in the New Chromebook App Hub

Key Takeaways
  • BlocksCAD is used in schools to foster a deeper understanding of computer science and mathematics through visual design.
  • BlocksCAD being hosted on Chromebooks allows for greater integration of computational thinking into third through eighth grade school curriculums.
  • Combining the visual features of BlocksCAD with the wide adoption of Chromebooks helps provide greater access for students to learn math and computer science.

Burlington, MA - Jun. 18, 2019 - Educational software company BlocksCAD announces the upcoming release of an app that will be featured on Google for Education’s App Hub, an online resource that K-12 educators can use to find apps and activity ideas for their Chromebook-using classrooms.

BlocksCAD is an accessible, blocks-based computer design tool that is academically oriented. Students as young as eight can effectively write code by utilizing colorful, stackable blocks to create their own designs. The standards-aligned curriculum is designed to reinforce fundamental math and computer science concepts. Student-created models can be fabricated on a 3D printer or viewed on an AR/VR device. BlocksCAD helps develop computational thinking skills at a young age, so students are prepared for more advanced concepts and technologies.

Combining the visual drag-and-drop features of BlocksCAD with the Chromebook’s popularity enhances the student learning experience and upholds computer coding as being a fun and understandable topic. BlocksCAD is available in ten different languages and is used to help educate students worldwide.

“We at BlocksCAD are excited to be part of the inaugural launch of Google Education’s Chromebook App Hub,” said Solomon Menashi, CEO of BlocksCAD. “Over 400,000 students around the world have been learning STEM and coding with BlocksCAD. Being part of the hub will allow additional teachers and school administrators seamless access to our software and standards-aligned curriculum.”

“BlocksCAD is a great tool for students to learn the connection between Code and Build,” said Ben Smith, Director of Education Technology at Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 in Pennsylvania. “Students using BlocksCAD will learn how to use block-based coding to develop projects for 3D printing. This connection between code and physical objects strengthen a student’s understanding of computational thinking as well as the engineering design process. This is an awesome tool that can be used to integrate math standards, design thinking, and engineering into rich activities.”
